Frequently Asked Questions

Below FAQ are some common concerns of our clients before purchasing the plaque.
If you have other questions, please just send it to info@customplaquesin.com.

❓ General Information

Custom bronze plaques are durable, elegant, and permanent forms of recognition. They are commonly used for:

  • Memorials and Dedications: Honoring individuals, events, or historical sites.

  • Architectural Signage: Building names, cornerstones, and wayfinding.

  • Donor Recognition: Acknowledging contributions in universities, hospitals, and non-profits.

  • Historical Markers: Commemorating significant places or moments.

  • Trophy and Award Backing: Providing a premium, lasting award element.

Bronze plaques are typically made using the sand-casting process. This involves creating a mold of the desired design in sand, pouring molten bronze into the mold, allowing it to cool and solidify, and then finishing the casting by polishing, adding patinas (colors), and applying protective coatings.

⏳ Production & Shipping

Because every plaque is custom-cast in a foundry (molten metal poured into a mold), our standard production time is 3 to 7 days (based on design complexity). This does not include shipping time. We emphasize quality over speed to ensure your plaque lasts a lifetime.
The casting process requires specific cooling and finishing times that cannot be rushed without compromising the metal. However, we do offer Expedited Shipping at checkout to speed up the delivery once the plaque is finished.
You will receive an automated email with a tracking number the moment your plaque leaves our facility.

🛠 Installation & Mounting

Standard orders come with color-matched wood screws suitable for mounting to wood, siding, or drywall. For Brick/Stone/Concrete: You will need masonry anchors (available at any hardware store). For Garden Stakes: If you selected a garden stake variant, the necessary bolts and nuts to attach the plaque to the stake are included.
Yes. For uneven stone surfaces where screws won't work, we recommend using a high-grade exterior construction adhesive or 2-part epoxy (specifically designed for metal-to-stone bonding). ensure the rock surface is clean and dry before applying.
Blind mounting (or stud mounting) means there are no visible screw heads on the front of the plaque. Threaded rods are screwed into the back of the plaque, and you slide the plaque into holes drilled into your wall/surface. Note: This requires precise drilling and is recommended for professional installation.

🎨 Design & Customization

Yes. We will email you a digital design proof within 1 -2 business days. We will not begin casting until you approve the design.

Please Note: To speed up production, we do not send proofs for standard orders unless requested. Our design team will format your text to look best on the size you chose.

Cast bronze requires a minimum letter size to be legible. Small Plaques (8x3, 6x4): Recommend 2-3 lines, max 20 characters per line. Medium Plaques (10x4, 12x6): Recommend 3-4 lines. If you have a long quote, please choose a larger size. If we cannot fit your text, we will contact you to discuss options.
Yes! We can cast custom logos, business branding, or specific fonts. Please contact us via our Get Free Quote / Design with your vector file (.AI or .EPS).

Bronze plaques offer extensive customization, including:

  • Size and Shape: Virtually any size and shape can be cast.

  • Text and Fonts: Custom fonts and multiple text lines are standard.

  • Logos and Images: Engraved or raised graphics, logos, and emblems.

  • Borders: Various edge styles, such as single line, double line, or decorative borders.

  • Patina/Color: Common finishes include a dark oxide background (statuary brown) with polished, raised elements. Custom color fills (color-matching) can also be added.

  • Raised Design: The letters, graphics, and border are elevated above the background surface. These raised areas are typically polished for contrast.

  • Recessed Design: The letters, graphics, and border are engraved or etched into the surface. The recessed areas are usually filled with paint or left natural. For bronze plaques, the standard is usually a raised design.

For the best results, high-resolution vector artwork files (like AI, EPS, or PDF) are preferred for logos and graphics. Text can be provided in a standard word processing document. If vector art is unavailable, our design team can often convert or recreate the artwork for a small fee. Please submit your artwork to Get Design & Quote.

🌧 Material & Care

Yes. We use high-quality lead-free bronze alloys. These are solid cast plaques, not plastic with a metallic coating, and not laser-etched aluminum.
Bronze naturally wants to develop a green patina (verdigris) over time. However, our plaques are finished with a clear protective lacquer to preserve the "new" look for many years. Care Tip: To extend the life of the finish, you can wipe the plaque down with a soft cloth and non-abrasive car wax once a year.
Absolutely. Our plaques are designed for permanent outdoor installation in all climates, from freezing snow to salt-heavy coastal air.

Most plaques come with mounting hardware suitable for the intended surface (e.g., walls, stone, or posts). Common mounting methods include:

  • Blind Mount (Stud Mount): Threaded rods are attached to the back of the plaque and inserted into drilled holes in the wall, creating a flush look with no visible screws.

  • Drilled and Tapped: Holes are drilled through the plaque face, allowing screws to be used. Decorative rosette caps are often supplied to cover the screw heads.

Yes, bronze is a naturally durable material that is highly resistant to corrosion, making it excellent for all outdoor environments.

Bronze plaques require minimal maintenance. To clean, simply wipe the surface with a soft cloth and mild, non-abrasive soap and water. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the protective coating or patina. For severe stains, contact a professional restoration service.
